Lovingly and restored and refurbished Potteiger House is once again the stately and comfortable home first envisioned by Dr. Albert Potteiger and enjoyed by his children and grandchildren. Dr. Potteiger and his wife, Tillie, relocated to Selinsgrove from Berks County, Pennsylvania just prior to 1916 when they built the home which is now our inn. Dr. Potteiger was the town's new veterinarian and Tillie was busy with their seven children and several others who over the years became family as well.

The home itself has many of the striking features of the Frank Lloyd "Prairie School". Perhaps most striking are the sturdily columned front and back porches and the upstairs sleeping porch now nestled in the limbs of the flowering dogwood and crabapple trees. Four of the bedrooms overlook the gardens which were designed and maintained for many years by Jack Potteiger.

As adults the Potteiger children became educators, artists and musicians with the exception of Robert who followed on his father's footsteps and became a veterinarian. The eldest daughter was a painter whose watercolors are much sought after today. Her brother Jack left Selinsgrove to dance with the New York City Ballet. Often he would come home for vacations and holidays bringing along other members of the company. Potteiger House is proud to have served as the informal summer rehearsal hall for Jack and his fellow dancers.
